SUMMARY:🔭NASA Confirms Life on Mars: View With Telescopes Over Drinks ☾Prov
  Date☽🪐
LOCATION:Camden Town Tube Station
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 36% · why: lots of
people going\n\nIf you're looking for sensational headlines - my group is
defo not for you! But seriously - do you look up and marvel with insatiab
le curiosity at both the beauty and the wonder of the universe? How it beg
an\, our place in it\, how life evolved and where else in the cosmos other
non-microbial life might live (every star you see has exoplanets orbiting
(some are rocky Earth like planets like ours with atmospheres)\nso u have
to be naively delusional to believe we are alone in the universe)?\n\nAnd
no I didn't make it up - unless you've been in hibernation or have zero i
dea about Humanity's greatest endeavours - you'll know NASA really have fo
und the best evidence to date of ancient life on Mars following the biolog
ical signatures of current microbe life discovered on Venus.\n\nSo we'll d
efo take a look at the red planet as well the potential life harbouring mo
ons of Jupiter\, the majestic rings of Saturn\, the international space st
ation\, Tau Ceti star with 2 Earth like planets orbiting in the habitable
zone\, remnants of supernova witnessed by our early ancestors plus a range
of other fascinating celestial wonderments (comets\, star systems\, galax
ies) over drinks and engaging chats and banter this Sept fully hosted by m
e - a passionate amateur astronomer and former global Reuters journalist c
overing big picture science related stories.\n\nIn between observing - we'
ll have drinks and engaging chats on all astronomy related topics for thos
 e inclined (Astrobiology\, SETI/Femi Paradox\, cosmology\, space explorati
on\, exoplanetology\, astrophysics etc) as well as non space chatter and b
anter too. No doubt I'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard hundreds of
times before! If those don't make you laugh\, then my impersonation of Los
Angeles ET will! 👽\n\n====Joining Astronomers Group & Telescopes =====\nI
'm able to take a limited number of people (please only RSVP if you can ma
ke it) to join my friendly informal relaxed London amateur astronomers' cl
ub that have been for over a decade with their regulars made up of up to a
bout 150 people. As there will be people attending from this private Astro
nomers group as well as others from one of my other groups - the total att
endees will be far higher than rsvps here and the public liability insuran
ce only covers a max number of people - hence I need to impose strict limi
ts on attendance.\n\nOver the years we have enjoyed numerous social evenin
gs of stargazing and thought provoking chatter with people of all ages and
varying levels of astronomy knowledge - so complete beginners that are ge
nuinely curious about the universe are very welcome. If you are just looki
ng to meet generic randoms then there are others groups that will better c
ater for that. The world renowed BBC Television Sky at Night also attended
our events pre covid and interviewed some of us for it's show that aired
on BBC1 in Feb 2019. BBC Radio London (94.9 FM / digital) were there Aug 2
023 to cover our meteor shower event broadcasting live to millions of Lond
oners for 3 hours\n\nYou don't need a telescope as you will be able to vie
w through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you be
have responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have y
our own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you s
 etting it up if you're a newbie.\n\nAlcoholic beverage (wine\, beer\, cide
r only)\, hot drinks and food/snacks will be available to purchase from th
e indoor cafe at the observation point which Regent's park keep open exclu
sively for our group so no need to bring your own drinks/snacks\n\n====ITI
NERARY=====\nWe will meet outside Camden Station. After a short wait for a
nyone delayed\, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the par
k about 15-20 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect\,
observing etiquette\, tips\, equipment handling and take any questions yo
 u have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related.\n\nAfter Drinks:
Unless I have a very important 9AM Thursday deadline for a client presenta
tion or something - most of us usually head our way back to Camden for ano
ther drink till about midnight. I will annouce the pub to all on the walk
back.\n\n===What Can You Expect To See (this time of year)? ====\n\nOrion
 Nebula\nJupiter and 4 moons\nMeteors\nAndromedia Galaxy\nSaturn\, rings &
moon\nStar clusters such as the Pleiades & Owl Cluster etc\nInternational
Space station fly by\nVenus & Mercury\nBinary & tripple star systems (thin
 k planet Tatooine in Starwars!)\,\nNeptune\nUranuus\nMars\nOur moon\nA loo
k towards the galactic centre where that supermassive £22b black hole sits

s subject to clear skies forecasts on the night so if on the actual aftern
oon of the event the weather forecasts looks unsuitable beyond doubt then
I will postpone so please check the event status on the day of the event .
If this event is still listed here at 5PM on the day\, it will be going a
head at the designated day and time!\n\nHappy Stargazing\n\nLucas Skywalke
