SUMMARY:Data-Oriented Architecture\, Shading Languages and Lessons from Tea
 ching C++
LOCATION:Maven Securities
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 36% · why: lots of
people going\n\nWe're back for a summer event with talks from Aliaksandr
Zhorau\, Aleksei Ozeritskii and Tobias Wood\n\nAs usual we'll need your fu
ll name for the door list\, so we'll be asking for this on registration (a
s this may be different to your username).\nThis data will only be used fo
r the door list/ registration and not published anywhere or used for other
purposes.\nIf you'd like to speak at a future event please get in touch a
 t cppldn.uk/speak.\n\nHere's the approximate schedule:\n18:30 Doors open\n
\n19:00 "Intro and news" - Phil Nash\n\n19:10 "Entity Component Systems: A
Data-Oriented Architecture for Modern CPUs" - Aliaksandr Zhorau\n\nDesign
ing cache-friendly and parallel simulation systems. Overview of entity com
ponent system paradigm.\n\n19:50 break\n\n20:10 "Bringing SYCL to Apple Me
tal" - Aleksei Ozeritskii\n\nWe present a Metal GPU backend for AdaptiveCp
p that translates generic LLVM IR to Metal Shading Language via structured
control flow lifting and address-space-aware code emission.\n\n20:50 "Wha
t Teaching C++ Has Taught Me About C++" - Tobias Wood\n\nImagine\, if you
will\, a large computer room filled with twenty-year-old second-year under
graduates. Most have never used a terminal before. Some don't know what fi
les and folders are. You have 12 weeks to teach them "Object-Oriented Prog
ramming" using C++. Where do you start? Where do you finish? What do you d
o in between? Which parts of a language almost half a century old do you i
nclude and which do you drop? And ultimately\, what do you end up learning
yourself in the process?\n\n21:00 Conclusion\, and moving on somewhere el
 se\n\n---\nAbout the speakers\nAleksei Ozeritskii is a senior C++ engineer
working on high-performance systems\, GPU computing\, and compiler techno
logies. His background includes distributed systems\, numerical algorithms
\, and low-level performance optimizations. Aleksei enjoys solving complex
technical problems and sharing ideas with the developer community.\n\nAli
aksandr Zhorau is a game development engineer with over 15 years of experi
ence in game engine development for massive online games. Aliaksandr posse
sses deep expertise in ECS paradigm for video games.\n\nTobias Wood is a p
hysicist who has spent his career bouncing around the electromagnetic spec
trum\, learning C++ along the way. His first real C++ experience was worki
ng in the space industry designing telecommunications satellites\, but the
n he went back to university to complete a PhD shooting lasers at stuff to
work out whether it was cancer\, which disappointingly involved only a li
ttle bit of C++. He then swapped to MRI where he has spent 15 years writin
g a lot of C++ to make interesting pictures of brains.
