SUMMARY:There and Back . . .
LOCATION:Spinnaker Drive
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 34% · why: lots of
people going\n\nHi everyone.\nWHERE ARE WE GOING:\nWe are going to ride o
ver to New Lynn via the North Western Motorway Cycle Path. Lunching at Bro
wn Street Café (50 Rosebank Road).\n\nTHE RIDE:\nStarting at the top end o
f Te Atatu Peninsula (meet at 10.30am\, CNR of Beach Road and Spinnaker Dr
ive)\, we will head down the various cycleways and a short gravel trail th
at will lead us to the Norwest Motorway Bike Path. (compacted gravel trail
which is short and easy to navigate)\nWe will then ride the new Te Whau P
athway extension to its end before returning to the motorway bike path.\nW
e then head east and cycle down the Norwest Motorway Bike Path to Watervie
 w. It's a wide flat concrete path\, so easy for everyone\, with lovely sea
views and coastal wildlife to admire. Next we head up Great North Road fo
r a short distance before crossing through Oakley Creek Esplanade Reserve.
We meander along this cycle path eventually passing behind the New North
Road "Pak n Save" and on to the top of Rosebank Road. We aren't done yet a
s we will carry on the extra 2.7ks to New Lynn. Again\, its a dedicated cy
cle path. I know you will enjoy it as it runs close to North/West railway
lines. Once we get to New Lynn\, (path ends next to the New Lynn RSA) we'l
l turn around and head back to Avondale where we are expected at the Brown
Street Café for lunch. (It is actually on Rosebank Road).\nI will book us
in so they will be expecting us.\n\nRETURN:\nAfter a scrumptious lunch\,
we follow our tracks back to the cars in Te Atatu.\n\nRIDE DIFFICULTY:\nTh
is is a relatively easy ride. Suitable for all types of bikes\, levels of
confidence and abilities - EXCEPT the short gravel path in Te Atatu\, wher
e you must be comfortable riding on compact gravel.\n\nSUMMARY:\nTotal rid
e is approx 35k's\, basically all on bike paths\, except the beginning of
the ride in Te Atatu\, which starts on a back street road followed by a sh
ort gravel path.\nAverage speed 20ks.\n\nDon't forget to check the weather
(I will cancel ride on Monday night if it looks like the weather is going
to be nasty). Bring rain jacket/sunscreen if need be\, water\, perhaps a
snack if you think you will need it and gear to fix a puncture etc.\n\nAS
PER OUR OTHER RIDES THEN:\nWe will cancel for rain but not for light or oc
casional showers.\nPlease bring a spare tube for your particular bike whee
l size.\nWe travel at circa 20ks an hour except for down hills.\nWe stop f
requently to regroup and check that everyone is going ok.\nWe have a Tail-
End-Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. (We are not too fond of l
eaving people behind)\nAssistance will be rendered for any mechanical issu
es but we are not bike mechanics.\nPlease check your tyres\, brakes and cl
ean/lube chain a day prior to the ride.\nPlease do not over take the desig
nated ride leader.\nWe encourage all riders to wear a High Visibility Vest
or similar for added safety.\nIf you have not signed up for this ride DO
NOT turn up\, as I will have booked our confirmed numbers with the café.\n
If you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last minute\
, please text or phone me\, Graeme on mob 027 285 3779 to advise so we are
not waiting for you.\nEnjoy the ride\, chat and comradery\, as that's wha
 t it's all about. :)
