nHere’s a summary:\n\nHow the latest science can help women achieve their
athletic potential\n\nOver the last fifty years\, women have made extraord
inary advances in athletics. More women than ever are playing sports and s
taying active longer. Whether they’re elite athletes looking for an edge o
r enthusiastic amateurs\, women deserve a culture of sports that helps the
m training programs and equipment designed to work with their bodies\, as
well as guidelines for nutrition and injury prevention that are based in s
cience and tailored to their lived experience.\n\nYet too often the guidan
ce women receive is based on research that fails to consider their experie
nces or their bodies. So much of what we take as gospel about exercise and
sports science is based solely on studies of men.\n\nThe good news is\, t
his is finally changing. Researchers are creating more inclusive studies t
o close the gender data gap. They’re examining the ways women can boost at
hletic performance\, reduce injury\, and stay healthy.\n\nSports and healt
h journalist Christine Yu disentangles myth and gender bias from real scie
nce\, making the case for new approaches that can help women athletes exce
l at every stage of life\, from adolescence to adulthood\, through pregnan
cy\, menopause\, and beyond. She explains the latest research and celebrat
es the researchers\, athletes\, and advocates pushing back against the sta
tus quo and proposing better solutions to improve the active and athletic
lives of women and girls.\n\nPS - thanks for contributing the $2! It helps
us cover the cost Meetup charges to run this group. Feel free to bring ca
 sh or send via Venmo.
