SUMMARY:Camp Practice - Beginner Camp Skills for Women
LOCATION:Woodland Park Shelter #3
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 27% · why: lots of
  people going\n\nCamp Practice\nThe PNW’s least intimidating campground\n\
 nWoodland Park\, Shelter 3\n1000 N 50th St\, Seattle\, WA 98103\n\nPractic
e Camping Before You're Actually Camping\nYou're at a campground. Your ten
t won't go up. Your camp stove won't light. The neighboring site is alread
y eating while you're still reading the instructions.\n\nLet's skip that p
art\, shall we?\n\nSome things are easier to learn before you're miles fro
m home. That’s why Sequoia Social Club is turning Woodland Park into a pra
ctice campsite where you can set up your gear\, cook breakfast\, ask quest
ions\, and make mistakes.\n\nThink of it as an open practice session for c
amping. Everyone will be working on something different\, and we'll be the
re to help wherever you get stuck.\n\nHave something you want to practice?
Bring it.\nJust curious how other people camp? Pull up a chair and enjoy
the morning.\n\nWant to spend two hours dialing in your hammock setup befo
re curling up with a book? We'd call that a successful Camp Practice.\n\nD
on't own gear yet? Come anyway. Borrow ours\, ask questions\, or simply se
 e how other people camp.\n\nSCHEDULE\n9:30–10:00 AM | Coffee & Settle In\n
Unload your gear\, meet other campers\, and settle into our practice camps
ite. Bring coffee or tea\, or make your first cup on your camp stove (or b
orrow ours).\n\n10:00–10:15 AM | Camp Huddle\nWe'll gather to kick off the
morning with introductions\, a few park guidelines\, and a camp topic of
the week: a short hands-on demo covering a camping skill\, tip\, or common
  mistake.\n\n10:15 AM–12:15 PM | Camp Practice\nThe campsite is yours.\nSe
t up your tent. Cook breakfast. Compare gear. Ask questions. Help someone
troubleshoot\, or relax in a camp chair and enjoy the park.\nThere isn't a
  right way to participate.\n\n12:15 PM - 12:30PM | Pack-up & leave it bett
er than we found it\nBreak down camp\, ensure we left the park better than
we found it\, and head home a little more prepared for our next outdoor a
dventure\, whether that's your own camping trip or one with Sequoia Social
  Club.\n\nWHAT TO BRING\nBring whatever you'd like to practice\, such as:\
n\nTent & sleeping bag/mat\nHammock (bring two towels to protect the trees
 \, we'll show you why)\nCamp stove (propane canisters under 5 gallons)\nBr
eakfast to cook on your stove\, (or just snacks)\nCamp coffee setup\nCamp
chair or any other gear you want to mess with\n\nWHAT WE’LL PRACTICE\nCamp
ing is a collection of little skills. This is a chance to practice whichev
er ones you'd like to build. Some ideas:\n\nSetting up and taking down a t
 ent\nCamp chairs\, tables\, and campsite organization\nLighting and using
 a camp stove\nCooking a meal outdoors\nPacking and unpacking your gear\nTr
oubleshooting gear that's giving you grief\nCamp kitchen setup\, cooking &
clean up\nLeave No Trace basics\nWhatever random camping question has bee
n living rent-free in your head\n\nTHIS IS FOR YOU IF YOU\n\nHave never ca
mped before\nBought gear that's still in the trunk\nAre a chronic overpack
er\nLearn best by doing\nWould rather make mistakes in Seattle than three
 hours from home\nAre WTFNB (Women\, Trans\, Femme\, Nonbinary)\nAre welcom
ing to people of all races\, ethnicities\, sexual orientations\, abilities
\, religions\, body types and experience levels\n\nWHO THIS GROUP IS NOT F
OR\n\nPeople looking for a dating meetup or pickup scene\nPeople looking f
or advanced instruction or a fast-paced outdoor group.\nPeople unwilling t
 o respect differing comfort levels\, identities\, or experience levels\nFo
lks more interested in proving themselves than helping create a welcoming
experience for beginners\n\nWHAT’S INCLUDED\n\nA supportive group of campe
rs\nHands-on help from an experienced instructor\nAccess to SSC gear to tr
y\nWater and nearby restrooms\n\nGOOD TO KNOW\n\nWe'll stay near Shelter 3
  all morning\nThis is a stationary practice session\, not a hike\nQuestion
s are encouraged\n"I have no idea what I'm doing" is a perfectly acceptabl
e starting point\nRain won’t stop us! It’s a great excuse to practice tarp
s\, rain gear and staying warm\n\nWHY CAMP PRACTICE\nReading about camping
is helpful. Watching campers on YouTube is helpful. But nothing beats pit
ching your own tent or lighting your own stove and realizing..."Oh...that'
s actually not that hard."\nFor many of us\, the biggest obstacle to getti
ng outside isn't the outdoors. It's not having a safe place to start.\n\nW
e got you.\n\nMEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR\nCeleste Olds is a PNW outdoor instruct
or dedicated to building wilderness skills\, confidence\, and meaningful c
onnections in nature. Her work is shaped by decades of project management\
, thousands of miles trekked through alpine terrain locally and abroad\, a
nd a lifetime of camping in the Pacific Northwest.\n\nABOUT SEQUOIA SOCIAL
CLUB\nSequoia Social Club organizes casual\, educational gatherings for a
dults who want to enjoy the outdoors\, but don’t know where to start. Like
  Girl Scouts\, but for grown-ups.\n\nThrough beginner-friendly hikes\, cam
ping trips\, and in-city classes\, we teach practical outdoor skills in a
low-pressure\, supportive environment. You’ll learn how to plan trips\, us
e gear\, stay safe\, and build outdoor confidence through real experience.
