SUMMARY:[In-person] Curiosity Café – Moral Improvement
LOCATION:Madison Avenue Pub
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 25% · why: lots of
people going\n\nNone of us are perfect. Whatever moral standards you asse
ss yourself by\, you will sometimes fall short. It may seem natural to fee
l guilt\, shame\, and other challenging emotions as a result — but should
it? What roles does recognizing our failures play in improving ourselves?
And how do we know if we’re “improving” for the right reasons?\n\nOur next
Curiosity Café will start by discussing our personal experiences of moral
failure and improvement. What are the consequences of moral failure in yo
ur own life? Is it easy or challenging to forgive yourself? What does it t
ake to bring your actions in line with your values?\n\nWe will then discus
s the influence of our social context on our experience of moral failure a
nd improvement. Have you ever received validation for moral improvement th
at felt unearned? Has your social environment ever contributed to the pers
istence of moral failure in your life? How does it feel to fail by your ow
n standards vs. societal standards?\n\nJoin our co-moderators Jesse Vriend
and Zachary Grey to dig into these and other questions on August 4th!\n\n
Space is limited! Please obtain a “Pay-What-You-Can” ticket from Curiosity
Café at this link (click here) to attend this event. You need a ticket to
be admitted. See the above link for more info about tickets and other opt
ions including a limited number of free tickets. Come and hang out with us
\, grab food\, and read through our handout from 6-6:30pm. Our structured
discussion will run from 6:30-8:30pm with a 10 minute break in the middle.
\n\nHope to see you there!\n\n\n\nThis event is brought to you by Being an
d Becoming\, a Toronto based non-profit. We aim to create community around
exploring everyday concepts and experiences so that we may live more inte
ntional\, thoughtful\, and meaningful lives. We use philosophy as a tool w
ith which we can come to a richer understanding of the world around us.\n\
nBy offering activities\, spaces\, and other opportunities for conversatio
n and co-exploration\, we hope to enable the meeting and fusion of individ
uals and their ideas. Everyone is welcome\, regardless of background: inde
ed\, we believe the journey is best undertaken alongside explorers from a
 variety of disciplines\, cultures\, backgrounds\, and experiences.\n\nFind
out more about Being and Becoming here.\n\nAbout the Curiosity Café Serie
s:\n\nFor those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to join us at our C
uriosity Cafés and are wondering what they’re all about: every two weeks\,
we invite members of our community to come out to the Madison Avenue Pub
to engage in a collaborative exploration of our chosen topic. Through thes
e events\, we aim to build our community of people who like to think deepl
y about life’s big questions\, and provide each other with some philosophi
cal tools to dig deeper into whatever it is we are most curious about.
