SUMMARY:Data Behind the Masterpieces: A Unofficial Tour of the National Gal
 lery of Art
LOCATION:National Gallery of Art - West Bldg\, Washington\, DC 20565
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 29% · why: lots of
people going\n\nData Behind the Masterpieces: A Unofficial Data Visualiza
tion Tour of the National Gallery of Art\n\nPresenter: Keith Krut\, Nation
al Gallery of Art\n\nMuseums are constantly generating and applying countl
ess datapoints\, supporting visitor experience and strategic insights in w
ays that will continue to accelerate with AI. The National Gallery of Art'
s Analytics and Enterprise Architecture Team has been leading unofficial t
ours of these sources and uses of data over the past several years\, and p
ast participants have reported that afterwards they saw museums through a
whole new lens. Join our data scientists for this customized tour followed
by demonstrations and discussion of the National Gallery's data analytics
products and strategy.\n\nWe’ll start with a walking tour that explores t
he museum through the lens of data. Instead of examining artistic movement
s or historical context\, we'll point out the sensors and invisible system
s that make a world-class museum possible: the metadata\, digital collecti
ons\, visualization tools\, audience interfaces\, and information architec
ture that help preserve\, organize\, interpret\, and share art with millio
ns of visitors. Along the way\, we'll discuss how museums are exploring em
erging technologies like AI.\nFollowing the gallery tour\, we'll gather fo
r demonstrations and discussion of some of the National Gallery's internal
data products and analyses\, as well as how these are used in planning an
d decision-support. Group questions and ideas are welcome.\n\nThis is not
an official museum tour or an art history lecture. Instead\, it is a conve
rsation about information design\, visual thinking\, technology\, and the
fascinating intersection of art and data. Whether you're a facilitator\, g
 raphic recorder\, designer\, librarian\, researcher\, technologist\, or si
mply curious about how complex organizations make sense of enormous amount
 s of information\, you'll leave seeing museums—and perhaps data itself—in
an entirely new way.\n\nLogistics\n\nWalking tour through the National Gal
