SUMMARY:Practical Philosophy Meetup - Seattle\, WA 🇺🇸
LOCATION:WSECU\, U-District branch
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 36% · why: lots of
  people going\n\n🏛️ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?\n\nPractical Philos
ophy is a biweekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an o
pportunity to dive deep on a topic\, practice communicating\, and building
a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎\n\nP
ractical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessi
ble to all\, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we c
hoose a topic\, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our cri
tical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.\nThe goal is to
help develop our Critical Thinking\, Communication\, and Community 🙌\n\n📓
HOW DOES IT WORK?\n\nEach week\, we pick one topic and discuss it. The to
pic for the week is shared\, generally in the Whatsapp group\, along with
jump-off points to get the conversation going.\n\nWhen groups get bigger t
han 7-8 people\, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This wa
y we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our m
eetups feel like a discourse or lecture.\n\nGeneral Meeting Agenda\n\nEach
Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:\n\n18:30-18:5
5 - People arrive and chat\, get to know each other before the official st
art.\n18:55-19:00 - Meeting introduction\, explanation of Practical Philos
ophy and the topic for the week\, read the guidelines and the overview so
attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.\n19:00-20:15 - Break
into small groups - introduce yourselves and take a few minutes to review
the discussion questions provided. Then begin the discussion\, giving ever
yone a chance to contribute. While it's not obligatory to answer the provi
ded questions\, they are designed to lead to a structured and fruitful con
versation.\n20:15-20:30 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusi
ons of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer co
ncludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.\n20:30 - The officia
l meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a
non-structured environment\, so we often stick around\, chat\, and get to
know each other.\n\n🧧PRICING?\nPractical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend
! If we meet in a cafe or restaurant\, we ask that you order something fro
m the establishment. Some chapters rent a space for meetings\, and we may
ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will a
lways be 100% voluntary though!\n\n💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILO
SOPHY\n🗣 “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief
system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right
and wrong” - Ekam\n🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) an
d felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people ca
n go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking
and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of
views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexib
 ility.” - Daniel\n\n🤓 FAQ\n\nWhat will we talk about? What's the topic?\n
\nThe topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We
try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well bu
t if you don’t see it\, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our W
hatsapp.\n\nDo I need to study or read anything to attend?\n\nNo preparati
on is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know wha
t YOU think about the topic\, not what an old philosopher thought. If you
have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share\, throw
it on the table and we’ll discuss it\, but it's not required.\n\nIs there
a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?\n\nThe goa
l of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions\, and flex our criti
cal thinking muscles. Because of this\, we want to hear from every realm o
 f thought\, and don't study a particular school.\n\n\\\\ Is it mostly men
that attend?\\\n\nSurprisingly\, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Cand
elabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys\, our Practical Philosop
hy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders\, and we don’t meet in any
dark rooms.\n\n\\\\ Can I come alone?\\\n\nOf course you can\, we encourag
 e it :)\n\n\\\\ Can I be late?\\\n\nPlease don't be! We do have a 15 minut
e grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out\, but
after that if you arrive too late\, it disrupts the flow of the conversati
on.\n\n\\\\ Where do you meet?\\\n\nThe location is posted in Meetup and o
ur Whatsapp group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you joi
n the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practic
al Philosophy Club\, you can see our chapters on our website.\n\nPRACTICAL
PHILOSOPHY CLUB - Philosophy\, everywhere. ✨\nWe started in Practical Phi
losophy back in 2021 and there are now 30+ chapters in over 18 countries\,
including Canada\, Spain\, Japan\, Mexico and many more! 🗺️\n\\\nJoin our
