  heard about hate speech in our society and the discussion about limits of
  the "freedom of speech". John Stuart Mill in the 19th century got the bal

 Oxford Review)\nFreedom of speech is the right to express one’s opinions a
 nd ideas without fear of government censorship\, retaliation\, or societal
  repression\, provided such expressions do not harm others or incite viole
 nce. It is a cornerstone of democratic societies\, fostering open dialogue
  and understanding across diverse perspectives.\nUnderstanding Freedom of 
 Speech:\nFreedom of speech plays a critical role in advancing Diversity\, 
 Equity\, and Inclusion (DEI) by enabling individuals from varied backgroun
 ds to voice their experiences\, concerns\, and aspirations. In inclusive e
 nvironments\, this right ensures that marginalised groups can share their 
 narratives and challenge systemic inequalities\, contributing to a more eq
 uitable society.\n\nThe NZ Human Rights Commission\nFreedom of opinion and
  expression are rights which uniquely enable us to promote\, protect and f
 ulfil all other human rights. The rights enable us to expose\, communicate
  and condemn human rights abuses. They also permit the celebration of huma
 n rights achievements.\n\nFrankly\, I rather agree with Oscar Wilde. There
  are so many dumb ideas out there. How do we expose people making asses of
  themselves? Can we say that a stupid opinion is exactly that?\n\nAlso\, i
 s there freedom of access to information on which to make critical judgmen
 ts? If not\, why not\, and does our education system encourage critical th
