SUMMARY:Road rave! 12 - 14 mile street skate
LOCATION:Daley Plaza
DESCRIPTION:Saved in Palaner as: saved\n\nPalaner match: 6% · why: lots of
people going\n\nRoad rave! It's a party on wheels where we join together f
 or a fun 12 - 14 mile skate through the streets of Chicago. It's a great w
ay to explore the city together with other skaters. The route is different
each time\, often based around a theme. We skate at 8 - 12 mph and usuall
y stop for refreshments somewhere in the middle. If you're unsure about do
ing the full 12 - 14 miles\, you're welcome to join us for just part of th
e skate (for example\, doing the first 5 miles)—just let us know if you de
cide to drop off partway through.\n\nEvent info:\n\nStart & end location:
 Daley Plaza\, by the Picasso sculpture.\nMeet up: 7:20 pm\, roll out: 7:45
pm. The skate will take roughly 3 hours. Before we roll out\, I'll post a
live location tracker link in a comment on this page and our Instagram st
ory so that any skaters who arrive late after we roll out can track us dow
n.\nFor our night skates\, skaters are strongly encouraged to wear LED lig
hts for visibility! Skaters should also bring water to hydrate. Snacks lik
 e energy bars are a good idea\, too.\nAll wheels welcome 🛼 🚲 🛹 - this even
t is hosted by inline and roller skaters\, but feel free to join us on a b
ike or skateboard.\n\nSkater skill level:\n\nSkaters must be able to brake
/ slow down. This is not only for your safety but for the safety of other
 s. We won't tolerate someone running into other skaters because they canno
t brake! It's also important because it will be necessary to stop quickly
and reliably at traffic lights and to control your speed when we skate dow
n hills / inclines (for example\, down steep ramps\, bridges over the inte
rstate\, train tracks\, and river).\nSkaters must feel comfortable skating
  at a pace of 8 - 12 mph. If you're unsure about your speed\, I recommend
using a speedometer app on your phone to check what pace you feel comforta
ble skating at.\nWe skate in the streets! So\, we frequently encounter sli
ght obstacles like cracks in the pavement\, train tracks\, and pot holes.
So\, skaters must feel comfortable skating or stepping over those obstacle
s\, as well as stepping up curbs and stairs.\n\nSafety info & rules:\n\nPl
ease be sure to give other skaters space and be mindful of them to avoid b
umping into others.\nHelmets\, wrist guards\, and pads are encouraged. The
se are especially important for less seasoned skaters\, but they're also a
good idea for even the most advanced of skaters.\nFor night skates\, skat
ers are strongly encouraged to wear LED lights for visibility.\nI'll pace
the skate with the goal of keeping the group together. Keeping the group t
ogether helps with safety because it improves our visibility to drivers. A
nd it's also more fun when we skate together!\nWhile leading the group\, I
will stop at red lights and trying to time our pacing so that we go throu
gh green lights together. I'll try to minimize occurrences where the group
gets split by a traffic light (i.e. the front of the group goes through a
green light and then the back of the group gets stopped at a red light).
However\, that inevitably sometimes happens. If that happens to you\, plea
se only cross the intersection when it is safe! Do not blow through a red
light without checking that it is safe to cross.\nWhen we're skating on a
multi-lane street and cars are present\, please stick to one lane (usually
the right lane) so that cars can pass us.\nSmoking: some skaters have a s
trong negative reaction to second hand smoke. For some\, it makes them fee
l sick\, for others they just really don't like it. If you're going to smo
ke\, please do it away from the group and other skaters.\n\nLinks:\n\nWind

gerous\, and by skating or riding with this group\, you accept responsibil
ity for your own safety and agree not to hold the group or its leaders lia
ble. Skate at your own risk.
